Yahava Travel Diaries - The Golden Triangle
The Koffee Baron and Koffee Analyst are on their motorbikes currently in Thailand to continue our search for the finest beans for YOU!.
"After picking our bikes up in Malaysia, we are now heading to the north east of Thailand where we want to check out high quality coffee. We then plan to loop through Laos, south into Cambodia and return through Thailand & Malaysia to cross the channel into Java... and finally arrive in Bali around early October.
After a few hiccups and 2 days of paperwork in Kuala Lumpur we finally got our bikes from the port and on the road." Yay!
Whatever happens we will be taking you on the journey by constant trip updates on our Travel Diaries webpage and on Yahava's Facebook page. Join us on an adventure and be sure to let us know if you are enjoying the ride!
Yahava trip to H.A. Bennett in Melbourne
The Koffee Junkie, Purist and Dude recently enjoyed an invaluable coffee cupping, or coffee tasting, with HA Bennett in Melbourne. Cupping is very much a social event where all involved observe the tastes and aromas of brewed coffee and compare notes, opinions and thoughts. We enjoyed cupping a variety of coffees which involved deeply sniffing the coffee, then loudly slurping the coffee so it spreads to the back of the tongue. We all discussed the coffee's taste, specifically the body, sweetness, acidity, and flavour.
On our trip we met Fabio an old school Italian roaster and paid a visit to various coffee roasters around Melbourne to see how the coffee experience is being shared. There was much discussion from Fabio about the new 3rd wave of Baristas turned roasters....almost like we are starting to see winemakers now brew beer. We found it interesting comparing the old school Italian style to the more pretentious 3rd wave air we found in some cafe/roasters where they were not openly sharing their passion and knowledge of coffee.
Overall, we had a fun and educational visit to the Koffee Junkies beloved home town of Melbourne.
Specialty Estate ~ Yemen Ismail Mokha
Yemen Ismail Mokha is the final piece in the Yahava Premium Series puzzle. After three years of trying we have finally managed to track down the prized bean. The Ismail Mokha is superbly aromatic and simultaneously smooth and piquant. Not to be confused with the Matari or Sanani from the same region, the Ismail has more body and fine acidity.
Cultivated today much as it has been for 400 years and grown at very high altitudes, production is limited and very costly but certainly worth every penny. Arguably described as the finest cup of coffee in world it is therefore a natural inclusion in the Yahava Premium Series.
So drop in to see us in Margaret River or the Swan Valley today for a cup or order online by visiting our orders page.
