Sencha Green Tea

Botanical: Camellia sinensis

Origin: China

Health Benefits: Sencha Tea has undergone very little oxidizing so retains many valuable
nutrients. Catechins, are natural chemical compounds present in this brew that will
stimulate fat burn, making it easier for our body to process everything that we eat
and drink. It’s also said to boost cognitive function and can reduce the risks of
neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

Chinese green tea is steamed but not oxidized so the flavours are quite different to those of the black teas. Green tea originates in China with a bush that has much smaller leaves. The Japanese popularised Sencha tea, with ritualized tea drinking ceremonies. ‘Sincha’ means ‘new tea’ and is always made with the first leaves harvested, because these leaves are the freshest and the sweetest. The flavour is light and herbaceous so we encourage you not to add milk or sugar. You can steep the pot numerous times using the same leaf and the pot will keep delivering a delightful liquor.

Brewing Sencha Tea

To brew a clean and refreshing Sencha Tea, take 1 teaspoon of our Yahava Sencha Green Tea and steep it in a 220 ml cup at 80°c for about 2-5 minutes.

The Great Mormon Butterfly

Papilio crino

This black beauty is a member of the graceful Swallowtail family and is commonly found in China where Sencha tea is grown. The female Mormon butterfly comes in four different patterns that mimic other toxic butterflies. It’s a great protection strategy for the females but is really confusing for the poor males.
