Discover Peru’s Finest: August Specialty Estate

As winter fades and the mornings begin to soften, we’re welcoming a coffee that perfectly captures the gentle warmth of the changing season. Our August Specialty Estate coffee takes you on a journey to the lush, misty highlands of Cajamarca, Peru, where smallholder farmers are quietly producing some of the most exquisite microlots in the world.

This month’s release comes from the renowned Lima Coffee cooperative, led by visionary cupper Rony Lavan. With a deep passion for quality and a relentless drive to elevate Peruvian coffee, Rony and his team have carved out a name for themselves by nurturing relationships with local farmers and pursuing only the finest lots. The result? Coffees that are not just high in quality but rich in character.

Grown at elevations between 1650–1800 MASL, this washed microlot is a vibrant blend of Catimor, Caturra, Bourbon, and Typica varietals. It undergoes a meticulous 12–18 hour fermentation process before drying—typical of the high-elevation Peruvian method that preserves the coffee's clarity and fruit-forward notes.

In the cup, it’s a flavour adventure. Expect jammy cherry and crisp apple, anchored by mellow tones of coffee and chocolate. Its juicy acidity and clean, fruit-like sweetness make it a standout brew whether enjoyed black or with a touch of milk.

What makes this release even more special is the story behind it. Peru’s coffee scene is rapidly evolving, and producers like Rony are at the forefront of this transformation. His commitment to microlot quality and direct trade practices is helping reshape perceptions of Peruvian coffee—from bulk commercial grades to nuanced, traceable specialty lots that can rival the best in the world.

This coffee is a true reflection of Peru’s rise in the specialty scene. If you’re after something unique, traceable, and bursting with flavour, this August release deserves a spot in your brew bar.
