October Specialty Estate: Brazil Monte Alegre – A Classic Cup from Monte Belo

Brazilian coffees are often loved for their smooth body, gentle sweetness, and easy-drinking balance. This month’s Specialty Estate is a classic example of that style, coming from Monte Alegre Estates in Monte Belo, Minas Gerais.

Produced by the Viera Family, this natural lot brings together Yellow Bourbon, Mundo Novo, Red Catuai and Acaia varietals, grown at 1000–1176 MASL. The result is a comforting and approachable cup that reflects the warmth and balance Brazilian coffees are known for.

Monte Alegre Estates has been part of Brazil’s coffee story for more than a century. Before the Viera Family acquired the farm in 1917, Monte Alegre was already a recognised coffee-producing property in Sul de Minas, though its original focus was sugarcane. As the quality of the coffee gained strong recognition from buyers, the family gradually shifted the farm’s focus entirely to coffee production. Today, the estate continues to build on that legacy with a strong focus on consistency, quality, and responsible farming.

In the cup, this coffee offers sugarcane sweetness, cocoa, a buttery mouthfeel and nutty notes. It is smooth, balanced and easy to enjoy, with a soft richness that makes it well suited to a range of brewing methods. The natural process helps support the coffee’s sweetness and rounded body, creating a cup that feels familiar, comforting and full of classic Brazilian character.

Alongside quality, Monte Alegre places strong emphasis on environmental responsibility. The estate follows practices around energy rationing, waste management, water management, reduced fertiliser usage and emissions testing for all vehicles, including tractors. More than 20% of the estate is also dedicated to permanent preservation areas, helping support biodiversity across the farm. With Rainforest Alliance certification, Monte Alegre reflects a thoughtful approach to coffee production that values both the cup and the land it comes from.

This October Specialty Estate is smooth, sweet and naturally balanced - a dependable Brazilian coffee with plenty of warmth and character.
