Café Simulation Sessions are the high-energy next step for students who've completed the School Holiday Student Intensive Barista Training Program and are ready to feel what it's actually like to work behind a café machine.

We recreate a real café environment — orders coming in fast and getting tougher as the session goes on. Students move beyond making one drink at a time and learn how a café really runs: managing workflow, communicating as a team, and getting quality drinks out under the clock. Working in teams and going head-to-head in friendly speed trials, it's fast, competitive, and a heap of fun — while every round quietly builds real skill.

And the best part: students can come back anytime. Every session we raise the bar, so there's always a new challenge and a faster time to beat. Think they've got what it takes to Beat the Barista on speed and quality?

It's hands-on, energetic, and realistic, while staying supportive and well-coached throughout.

What Students Will Learn

By the end of the session, students will be able to:

  • Set up and maintain an efficient café workstation
  • Apply workflow positioning and sequencing for multi-order service
  • Communicate clearly and work confidently as part of a barista team
  • Execute multiple drinks to café standard under time pressure
  • Balance speed and quality during busy service periods

What the Session Includes

Professional Setup & Calibration — Students practise setting up a café workstation efficiently, learning how cafés prepare for service with time benchmarks and high-volume readiness in mind.

Espresso & Milk Under Pressure — Fast-paced extraction checks, grinder adjustments, and milk texturing across multiple drinks and milk types — all while managing workflow and the clock.

Workflow Positioning & Team Roles — Students learn café roles such as shot runner, milk steamer, assembler, and handover — including communication cues, body positioning, and smooth handoffs to keep service flowing.

Service Simulation & Speed Trials — Timed drink runs and simulated "rush hour" scenarios replicate real café pressure, with teams and individuals racing the clock. Students learn to manage multiple orders, work through breakdowns, recover — and take on the Beat the Barista challenge.

Reflection & Feedback — Each session wraps with instructor feedback on workflow, communication, time management, and holding quality under pressure.
