A blend of Tanzanian, Indian and Mexican coffees with notes of Toffee, Sweet Caramel and Brown Sugar, Balanced with striking Brightness, it is the Boldest of our Signature Koffees.

Mikali is an enticing blend of three majestic coffees, products of highly reputable coffee growing nations, each separated by vast tracts of ocean. Each individual coffee brings to the blend its own unique set of attributes.  The most dominant of the three is the Tanzanian, where coffee was originally grown not to brew, but to chew. Haya tribesmen chewed coffee cherries as a stimulant. On the slopes of Kilimanjaro Kent and Bourbon coffees were planted in the late 1900s but only recently have these high grown coffees come to global prominence. In Swahili the word mikaili means ‘strong’ and the term “Tanzania Mikali” is often used to express national pride. We too, are proud of Mikali, it is a coffee with depth and strength while retaining a syrupy sweetness, a balancing act that is often hard to achieve.

Mikali

The strongest roast in the Signature stable, it is a roast that revels at the extreme end of the roasting process. As the beans are taken to the top end of caramelisation, the coffee is imbued with a smoky, deeply intense flavour. Dropped and cooled before scorching occurs, Mikali requires the roasters full attention, this is a coffee that demands a level of precision to reach the ‘promised land’. As it's name implies, there are few boundaries when it comes to brewing this coffee. It is robust enough to revel in any brewer, from espresso through to pour over.

The Body & Brightness Profiles:

When you first taste a coffee, you should first assess its body or mouth feel and also just how acidic or bright it is. You may like a coffee that has a whole lot of body but with low acidity. Or you may like a mellower mouth feel but a brighter acidity. It really is a personal preference, there is no right or wrong.

The Flavour Profiles:

What sets each individual coffee apart will be the flavours or what we call the “tasting notes”. The tasting notes are many and varied ranging from floral to nutty, spicy to berry, chocolaty to citrusy, just to name a few. These flavours make each coffee very different and so special. Where the coffee is grown, climate, elevation, soil type and harvesting techniques will all impact on the flavour so unique to each coffee.

How Can I Best Enjoy A Mikali Coffee?

To fully appreciate the taste of this blended coffee, and to experience the richness of the flavour, we suggest drinking it black or without sweetener or milk. The brew method you choose will also influence the taste so we encourage you to experiment. If you crave a sweeter cup you might like a splash of essence (coffee elixirs and essences).
